    Since 1993, we have been serving the Prince
    William and Loudoun County areas of Virginia.
    Owner, Nikia Dower, MS, CCC-SLP/L, BCBA®,
    has been in private practice since 1986 in
    Leesburg and Manassas. We are Board
    Certified Behavior Analysts®, Speech-
    Language Pathologists, ABA Instructors and
    Tutors. We specialize in an applied behavioral
    analytical (ABA) approach with an emphasis in
    Skinner's conceptual analysis of Verbal
    Behavior with regard to the education,
    communication and lifeskill needs of children
    and adolescents with Autism Spectrum
    Disorder & Language-Learning Disabilities. We
    offer speech/language evaluations & therapy,
    educational & remedial tutoring, advocacy,
    educational consultations and Applied Behavior

    Exceptional Children’s Center  practice is
    located in Alexandria Virginia. Our
    mission is to implement interventions that are
    family centered and have a profound effect on
    the life of a child. We closely follow new
    therapy intervention developments in the field
    and incorporate them into our practice when
    appropriate. In addition to providing children
    Occupational and Physical therapy sessions in
    our SI clinic we also provide families with
    carryover plans that are individualized for
    home routines for parent ease and child
    success! Our staff is dedicated to each child
    we meet, assisting each child in realizing his or
    her innate potential.

    Psychological, Developmental and
    Neuropsychological Evaluations and Therapy

    Ruthie Dearson joins Family Compass Group as
    Speech-Language Pathologist for the Child
    Development Team. She received her B.A. in
    English at Mary Washington College in 1997
    where her interest in language development and
    linguistics began. Ms. Dearson attended the
    University of Vermont as a Continuing
    Education student where she completed pre-
    requisite coursework for graduate studies in
    communication disorders. She received her M.
    A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders
    from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001
    with a specialization in medical speech-language
    pathology. Her Master's Thesis, Typical
    Development in the First Year of Life, a Family
    Resource Manual, helped lay the groundwork
    for her career helping children with
    developmental delays and disorders. After
    successful completion of her clinical fellowship
    year, Ms. Dearson received her Certificate of
    Clinical Competence in Speech-Language
    Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA (American
    Speech-Language Hearing Association) in 2002.
    Her experience includes providing evaluations,
    diagnosis and treatment of children with a
    variety of communication delays and disorders
    in Early Head Start and Head Start programs,
    Fairfax County Public Schools, and private
    practice. Ms. Dearson works with young
    children with language delays, developmental
    language disorders, articulation and
    phonological disorders, pragmatic language
    deficits, and fluency disorders (stuttering).
    She believes firmly in evidenced-based
    treatment and making parents partners in the
    therapy process.
