One of the best things I did for myself and my family was to join a
support group. I attended the Arlington Parent to Parent meetings. I
can't tell you the enormous sense of relief it was to meet and talk to
other parents who were experiencing similar issues. I had finally
met people who knew what I was talking about when I mentioned
words like "hypotonia" or "sensory integration". It felt great being
able to know that I wasn't alone on the emotional roller coaster. It
felt even better to learn what worked and what didn't work for them
and to try their suggestions. What was amazing was that a group of
virtual strangers were brought together by one common bond, how
to best help our children. The unconditional support and
encouragement given within the group was and is exceptional.

The Special Olympics Young Athletes Program is a chance for young
special needs children to experience the many wonderful life lessons that
sports have to offer. Overview of Program: A chance for your young special
needs children to experience the many wonderful life lessons that sports
have to offer. It is our goal to create an environment that not only
accommodates the needs of the children but also allows for a more inclusive
environment and a family centered approach to bringing sports into the life
of your children. This camp is not only focused upon winning and losing but
instead the simple fundamentals and how these skills can be taught and
built upon to create athletes of the future. Some of the sports we will be
concentrating on include baseball, basketball, soccer, kickball, bowling, and

skills, have fun, and be in an environment where they, and their siblings,
can feel free to be themselves and take a chance at something new.
