I hope this page will be a valuable tool for you. I first heard the word "Respite" from our County Intervention Office, when our son was a year old. I provided the babysitter and they paid for it. There was a time when our son cried 24/7 unless he was held very tightly. I later learned that he had an immature nervous system that needed to be regulated by receiving lots of input through various types of movement. It was a very intense time and I wasn't getting much sleep. I hired Marymount University Special Education Majors and Physical Therapist Majors to come and "run" my son around from 5-7 p.m., six days a week for more than six months. I slept during that time. I also taught these incredible girls all of the exercises that the therapists taught me, so that our son was able to have fun yet get the input he needed. I have since learned about these other places that offer Respite Services through their very trained and qualified employees.
