She has a research background studying language processing in early development and language impairments in both adults and children. She has published articles on on the use of computerized language systems in the rehabilitation of both adults with aphasia and children with autism. She is a scientific advisor for both AutismSpeaks (autismspeaks. org/science/research/initiatives/ita_initiative. php) and Anthrotronix, (atinc.com) a robotics company in Silver Spring, Maryland where she focuses on research of learning technologies for people with autism. She is on the advocacy task force for Universal Design for Learning in Maryland www.udl4maryland.org and was part of a team of educators who wrote a new teacher education curriculum for University of Maryland University College's Master's in Teaching program that has a large focus on disability, diversity, global learning and technology integration. She has in the past few years been an active participant and lecturer at conferences, and workshops in Maryland and nationally that focus on teacher and parent education, the neuroscience of learning and how we can use avariety of 'tools' to increase success and independence for students with arange of learning differences and 'exceptionalities'.

Attachment to others begins the day we are born and continues throughout our lives. Some teens struggle to understand and interact in ways that foster meaningful relationships. Michelle Morrison, LCSW-C will help parents understand how they can help their child form meaningful friendships, exploring the challenges facing teens of today and the importance of educating our youth to navigate the complexities of relationships successfully. Dr. Catherine Busch will be discussing safety issues for teenagers when socializing with their peers. Adolescents with executive function or social skills deficits are more likely to be drawn into risky behavior. They are also less likely to recognize potentially dangerous situations that may lead to harm or victimization. Dr. Busch will cover what we know about risky behavior among adolescents, practical prevention principles, and safety education resources. Parents will learn some tips for helping teenagers anticipate problems, develop safety plans, and decrease their risk of harm in social situations. Catherine Busch, Ph.D. is a child psychologist in private practice with expertise in psychological trauma and ADHD. She has many years experience treating victims of sexual abuse and assault, was Chair of the Howard County Injury and Violence Prevention Coalition, serves on the Howard County Child Fatality Review Team, and is President of the Howard County Mental Health Authority Board. Michelle Morrison, LCSW-C is a clinical social worker and the founder of Morrison and Associates which focuses on the treatment of children, teens, and their families. Her expertise is in assisting children who experience social, emotional, and learning challenges. Her practice emphasizes building on the child’s strengths and helping them to understand and minimize their weaknesses. She has developed social skills groups for middle and high school students to promote healthy social development.
