    A SUPPORT GROUP FOR ADULTS WITH AUTISM
    SPECTRUM DISORDERS

    Place: 101 North Plains Industrial Rd., Wallingford, CT

    Date: Every second Friday of every month

    Time: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

    If you are, or know of an adult with Asperger Syndrome,
    high functioning autism or PDD who is 18 or older, there
    is a support group for them.

    There is no fee for participation - registration is not
    required.

    The facilitator is David Tipping, who is a married adult
    with Asperger's, a teacher, and an excellent facilitator.
    Our first three years have been very successful and we
    are looking forward to starting a number of other groups.

    University College Preparation, Rights and
    Responsibilities, Empowerment, Planning

    Beginning August 2, 2010 and continuing through
    August 7, 2010, UConn will host a transition program
    entitled, “University College Preparation, Rights and
    Responsibilities, Empowerment and Planning
    (UCPREP).” UCPREP is a six day transition focused
    summer program for rising high school juniors and
    seniors, which gives participants the opportunity to
    immerse themselves in the college setting.

    Participants will:

     * Acquire a broader knowledge of college life,
    expectations and responsibilities.
     * Gain a better understanding of their academic and
    personal strengths and needs.
     * Understand their rights and responsibilities as a
    student with a disability.
     * Learn the skills to become an effective self-advocate.
     * Create an individualized college transition plan that
    will assist with planning, preparation and adjustment.

    The Disability Convention and Exposition:
    Independence Through Empowerment

    On Saturday, August 28, 2010, The Connecticut
    Disability Advocacy Collaborative will sponsor the
    “2010 Disability Convention and Exposition:
    Independence Through Empowerment.” The event will
    be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Connecticut Expo
    Center located at 265 Reverend Moody Overpass in
    Hartford, Connecticut.

    Participants will hear from candidates from stat and
    national offices in attendance, visit exhibitors carrying
    the latest in adaptive equipment and technology, get
    information from public and private agencies that
    provide services and supports to children and adults
    with disabilities and meet a wide variety of advocacy
    organizations.
