This mission is delivered through our cutting-edge clinical care, innovative research and family-centered approach, including when a child is diagnosed with a heart problem such as congenital heart disease. The Children's Hospital's success comes from a growing understanding of the developmental and genetic predispositions of disease. Our many research programs are collaborative, and focus on determining what causes congenital heart disease, and how it affects other organs and systems. Staff Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital physicians utilize a variety of advanced imaging, interventional and surgical techniques to diagnose and treat children of all ages. Many of the non-invasive procedures can minimize or eliminate the need for surgery. In addition to the dedicated team of physicians, a multidisciplinary nursing team with expertise in caring for children with congenital heart defects is always on hand. YNHCH also has a Child Life Program that helps children cope with the adjustments of being in a hospital by providing a variety of play experiences. Surgery Working collaboratively with Yale-New Haven Hospital pediatric anesthesiologists, intensivists and pediatric cardiologists, dedicated pediatric cardiothoracic surgeons perform all types of procedures with the safety and security that result in very low morbidity and mortality.
